Eligibility
Applicants in the humanities and social sciences must:

2. Have published a monograph or at least two articles in refereed journals or edited collections.

Creative Artists

Eligibility
Applicants need not have a PhD or an MFA to apply; however, they must meet the following discipline-specific eligibility requirements:

Film and Video: Applicants in this discipline must have a body of independent work of significant achievement. Such work will typically have been exhibited in galleries or museums, shown in film or video festivals, or broadcast on television.

Visual Arts: Applicants in this discipline must show strong evidence of achievement, with a record of at least five years of work as a professional artist, including participation in several curated group shows and at least two professional solo exhibitions.

Fiction and Nonfiction: Applicants in these disciplines must have one of the following:
a) one or more published books;
b) a contract for the publication of a book-length manuscript; or
c) at least three shorter works (longer than newspaper articles) published.

Poetry: Applicants in this discipline must have had published at least 20 poems in the last five years or published a book of poetry, and must be in the process of completing a manuscript.

Journalism: Applicants in this discipline are required to have worked professionally as a journalist for at least five years.

Playwriting: Applicants in this discipline must have a significant body of independent work in the form. This will include, most typically, plays produced or under option.

Music Composition: It is desirable, but not required, for applicants in music composition to have a PhD or DMA. Most importantly, the applicant must show strong evidence of achievement as a professional artist, with a record of recent performances.

Individuals who are in doctoral or master’s programs at the time of application submission are ineligible to apply, unless the dissertation has been accepted and degree is forthcoming.

Former Radcliffe fellows (1999-present) are ineligible to apply.

Practitioners

Radcliffe welcomes applications from mid-career practitioners who have held senior leadership positions in non-profits, government, or the private sector. Many mid-career practitioners propose to write a book or series of articles during their year; others plan for the launch of their next venture. To apply as a practitioner, please use the application for the Humanities and Social Sciences. When selecting a disciplinary area on the application form, please select “Practitioner” from the drop-down menu. You will have additional opportunities to specify your area of focus.

Eligibility and Evaluation
Practitioners should have at least ten years of relevant professional experience and be acknowledged as leaders in their fields. Proposals from practitioners are evaluated based on their professional experience, project feasibility, collegiality, and suitability for the Radcliffe community.

Value of Program:

• Radcliffe Institute fellows are in residence for a period of nine months from September 1, 2023 through May 31, 2024 and receive a stipend plus an additional for` project expenses. Fellows are expected to be free of their regular commitments so that they may fully devote themselves to the work outlined in their proposal.
• As this is a residential fellowship, fellows are expected to reside in the Greater Boston area for the duration of their fellowship. Fellows may be eligible to receive additional funds for moving expenses, childcare, and housing to aid them in making a smooth transition. Healthcare options are made available as needed.
• Radcliffe Fellows receive office or studio space in Byerly Hall and full-time Harvard appointments as visiting fellows, granting them access to Harvard University’s various resources, including libraries, housing, and athletic facilities. If fellows would like to hire Harvard undergraduate students as Research Partners, we will cover their hourly wages.
• Fellows are expected to engage actively with the colleagues in their cohort and to participate fully as a member of the Radcliffe community. To this end, all fellows present their work-in-progress, either in the form of a private talk for their cohort or a public lecture, in addition to attending the presentations of all other fellows during that academic year (up to two talks per week). We offer group lunches and other opportunities to connect with members of your cohort, but attendance at these is optional.

Commonwealth Foundation Grants 2023

About the Award: The Foundation offers grants of up to £200,000 over four years in support of innovative project ideas and approaches that seek to strengthen the ability of civic voices to engage with governments and that have the potential to improve governance and development outcomes through their active participation.

The Foundation believes in the power of stories and storytelling for social change and will award grants for creative approaches that have the potential to influence public discourse.

All proposals must ensure that the cross cutting theme of gender is mainstreamed throughout the project.

Fields of Funding: The Foundation’s Strategic Plan 2021-2026 is strongly linked to the Commonwealth Charter and its values and aspirations, and it identifies three thematic areas of focus:

• Health
• Environment and climate change
• Freedom of expression

3. The application is for funding for a maximum of £50,000 per annum
4. The applicant is applying for funding for a maximum of four years
5. The applicant does not have an existing grant from the Commonwealth Foundation at the time the application window is open.
6. The average of the applicant’s total income over the last two years is less than £3m
7. The project must address one or both Commonwealth Foundation’s outcomes
8. The applicant will provide the following documents as part of the application:
• a completed logic model using the Commonwealth Foundation template
• a copy of the organisation’s registration certificate1 (the official registration document provided by the relevant authorities in the country concerned)
• a copy of the organisation’s most recent audited accounts (it must include both the accounts and the opinion of the external auditor who has certified them; it should not be older than December 2016)
• a copy of the registration certificate for all partner organisations

Selection Criteria: The application for a grant is a two-stage process: preliminary application and full application. Only shortlisted organisations will be invited to submit a full application.

Preliminary applications will be assessed on the criteria below:

1. The application has a clear problem definition.
2. The application clearly demonstrates that it is demand driven and relevant.
3. The project must address one or both Commonwealth Foundation outcomes
4. The application clearly shows how the planned activities will deliver outputs that lead to the project outcomes.

• Applications from students registered at university in a country not classified by the UN as lower middle income, or low-income will NOT be funded.
• Applications seeking funding for equipment, or attendance at conferences, will NOT be funded.
• Applications seeking scholarships to cover the costs of complete Bachelor, Masters or Doctorate courses, or parts of Bachelor, Masters or Doctorate courses will NOT be funded
• Applications seeking funding to cover the costs of Bachelor, Masters or Doctorate research projects will NOT be funded
• Applications that cannot demonstrate the potential to alleviate poverty and/or provide sustainable environmental benefits will NOT be funded.
• Applications from students not studying degrees related to agriculture, land use or the environment will NOT be funded.

How to Apply

• Step 1: Visit csc.edu.cn/laihua or www.campuschina.org  and click “Application Online for International Students”.
• Step 2: Read “Tips for online application” carefully before clicking “NEXT” to the registration page.
• Step 3: After registration, log in with your user name and password. Click “Application Forms”and choose “MOFCOM Scholarship”.
• Step 4:  Put 00010 as your Agency Number.
• Step 5: Please fill all the required information truly, correctly and completely following the navigation bars on the left of the page.
• Step 6: After completing the application form, please click “Preview” and check your Application Form carefully before submitting it.
• Step 7: Download the completed Application Form by clicking “Download Application”and print two hard copies.
• Step 8: Prepare other supporting documents as required and send the full package of application documents (two sets of hardcopies) to the Economic and Commercial Counsellor’s Office (ECCO) of the Chinese Embassy.
• Step 9: You can make changes to your application by clicking Retrieve Application on the left of the page. But you have to make sure to submit it again by clicking Confirmation of Submit after finishing all the changes. Otherwise, the retrieved application will become invalid and your new application will not be accepted either.

Important Notes: Scholarship winners must register for English-taught program if such program is available. When only Chinese-taught program is available, students should take Chinese language training courses for one to two years before moving on to their degree study.

About the DAAD MIPLC Scholarships: With its development-oriented postgraduate study programmes, the DAAD promotes the training of specialists from development and newly industrialised countries. Well-trained local experts, who are networked with international partners, play an important part in the sustainable development of their countries. They are the best guarantee for a better future with less poverty, more education and health for all. The scholarships offer foreign graduates from development and newly industrialised countries from all disciplines and with at least two years’ professional experience the chance to take a postgraduate or Master’s degree at a state or state-recognised German university, and in exceptional cases to take a doctoral degree, and to obtain a university qualification (Master’s/PhD) in Germany.

Fields of Study: Development-Related Postgraduate Courses

Eligibility: Candidates eligible for the DAAD scholarship for “Development-Related Postgraduate Courses” must:

• hold at least a four-year Bachelor’s degree (or a three-year Bachelor’s degree plus a further degree), completed with above-average results.
• have received their latest degree no more than six years ago.
• have at least two years of full-time professional experience gained in a public authority or a state or private company in a developing country (university staff and academics are generally not taken into account). To meet this requirement, it is sufficient if candidate has completed the two years by the time the program starts in October. In any case, the experience must have been gained after the completion of your first university degree.
• have English test scores which meet the MIPLC requirements (see scholarship website).

Value of Scholarship: 

• The scholarship recipient(s) will get a full tuition waiver from the MIPLC.
• The DAAD will pay the scholarship recipient(s) a monthly stipend of EUR 750.00.
• As a rule, the scholarship additionally includes certain payments towards health, accident and liability insurance coverage in Germany.
• In addition, the DAAD will generally pay an appropriate travel allowance, unless these costs are covered by the home country or by another funding source.
• Furthermore, the DAAD will also pay a study and research allowance.
• Last but not least, the scholarship covers a mandatory two-month German course before the start of the MIPLC LL.M. program.

The scholarship does not cover additional costs, e.g. enrollment fees or the fees for a semester ticket for public transport in Munich.

How to Apply for the DAAD MIPLC Scholarships: You may apply more than a year in advance. To apply for this scholarship, please proceed as follows:

1. Please refer to the DAAD program brochure 2022/23 and read the information carefully.
2. Determine whether you are eligible to apply by DAAD and MIPLC standards, keeping in mind that where MIPLC and DAAD have differing requirements, the stricter requirements prevail.
3. Apply for admission to the MIPLC (please refer to the How to Apply page).
4. When you come to the end of the online application form, check “I would like to apply for the DAAD scholarship” and complete the MIPLC Financial Assistance Application Form that opens automatically (please refer to the Financial Assistance Application Instructions).
5. Print the forms and add all required documentation, as per the instructions provided.
6. Download and complete the DAAD Scholarship Application Form and add the other documents required by the DAAD (please refer to the DAAD brochure; NB: the MIPLC does not require a research proposal). You only have to submit one copy of each document, even if a document, e.g. your CV, is required by both MIPLC and DAAD.
7. Make sure that your file is complete, including all three application forms
   (the MIPLC application form for admission; the MIPLC application form for financial assistance, and the DAAD application form for the scholarship)
   and all the required documents. Otherwise, your application cannot be processed. Please note that we only need the original application package, no additional copies.
8. Make copies of all application documents. If your are awarded the scholarship, you will have to upload electronic copies of these documents to the DAAD’s system.
9. Send your application: Please submit your application directly to the MIPLC, unless you are from Cameroon, in which case you must submit your application through the German Embassy in your country. Your complete file must reach the MIPLC by October 15 of the year preceding the program start.
