Abel Visiting Scholar Program 2017 for Mathematics PhD Scholars in Developing Countries

About the Award: The program is designed for post doctoral mathematicians in the early stages of their professional careers.   It is designed to offer the opportunity for a ‘research sabbatical,’ a necessary complement to teaching and other academic duties for mathematicians desiring to also sustain a viable research program.

Eligibility: Applicants must
     1.   hold at the time of application a PhD in Mathematics,
     2.   be based in a developing country at the time of application
     3.   hold a position in a university/ research institution
     4.   be in the early stages of their professional careers, more precisely: the applicants  should
            4. 1) not yet be of full professorial rank but have a working contract in a university/ college
            4. 2) be under 40 years of age at the day of the application deadline.
Therefore for the application deadline of April 30, 2017, applicants should be born ON or AFTER April 30, 1977.
The maximum age may be increased by up to three years in the case of an individual with a broken career pattern (applicants who wish to apply for the April 30, 2017 deadline should be born on or after August, 31, 1974). This should be noted in the application together with the reason for the broken career pattern.
 Applications from women mathematicians are strongly encouraged.
Selection Criteria: The selection criteria is based on the the quality of the project and the benefit/added value for the home institution/country.
Selection: A selection committee decides which applications are successful.
The Selection Committee consists of
a) a member chosen by the Abel board
b) a member chosen by CDC
c) a third member chosen by the IMU EC

  3. accommodation expenses (monthly rent should not exceed USD 1200- in case you expect higher accommodation cost, please explain in your application the expected higher cost)
  4. travel health insurance
  5. visa cost
  6. local public transport up to USD 100 (for one month)
The total maximum amount is USD 5,000 per grantee.
Family expenses and any other cost cannot be covered.  
Duration of Scholarship: 1 month. In case the length of the visit exceeds one month, the candidate should provide evidence of financial support from the host institution to cover the living expenses beyond the first month.
How to Apply: Each application must include:
  1. A curriculum vitae including a list of recent publications
  2. A research plan for the visit
  3. An official invitation from the institution of the international research partner
  4. One letter of recommendation If the letter of recommendation is not written by the international research partner (the host), the application should include a statement from the host approving the research plan.
  5. A copy of the PhD certificate
  6. A statement about the current employment status/ position in the home institution signed and stamped by your employer. The statement should include the duration of your employment
  7. A budget estimation (see Financial Support)
  8. In case you are planning to stay for more than one month you must attached a proof of the matching funds for your living costs from the host institution

Linköping University International Masters Scholarship 2018

Government of Greece International Scholarships to attend Modern Greek Language and Culture Courses 2018/2019

Application Deadlines: 
  • The application deadline is 19th November, 2018. The original documentation along with the application and the curriculum vitae shall have a postal seal by this date.
  • The electronic application deadline (only the curriculum vitae and the application form) is 11th November, 2018.

To be taken at (country): Greece

About the Award: This programme is intended for foreign nationals, holders of a graduate degree from a non-Greek university outside Greece, who do not permanently reside in Greece. Courses and seminars are being offered since 1992. From 2006 and onwards candidates from all over the world join activities.
Award takes place in any of the public universities in Greece. It covers all levels of language competency.
The programme also includes cultural events and educational visits to Greek sites of historical interest.
A certificate of attendance is awarded upon completion of the programme.

Type: Short courses

Eligibility: Applicants should:
  1. Be nationals of any country of the world excluding Greece (not with dual nationality – both foreign and Greek).
  2. Hold a graduate degree from a non-Greek University outside Greece.
  3. Not exceed the fortieth (40th) year of age until the 01/01/2018.
  4. Be not permanent residents in Greece.
  5. The knowledge of the Greek language acquired during this specific course should contribute to enhance the candidates work opportunities and to promote the Greek language and culture in their countries.
Applicants must meet the above requirements by the application deadline.

Selection Criteria: 
  • Incomplete, inaccurate or illegible application files will not be taken into consideration.
  • Applicants who are or have been on a scholarship by the I.K.Y. will be excluded from the programme with the exemption of ex-scholarship holders of the Modern Greek Language and Culture programme who wish to approve their Greek language competency.
  • Candidates under legal prosecution will be excluded from the selection process.
  • Applications by undergraduates who have not yet obtained their University degree will not be considered.

Value of Award: The scholarship covers the following costs:
  1. Free meals and accommodation in University residence or in flats provided by the University which will undertake the programme.
  2. A monthly allowance of 150, 00€ (net amount) for personal expenses.
  3. 200, 00€ for initial expenses.
  4. Free emergency medical treatment under the Greek National Health Service (only in    public hospitals). European citizens should have the European Insurance Illness Card from their insurance agency of their country.

Duration of Programme: 
  • The duration of this scholarship is seven (7) months and is only offered for a specific course in the Modern Greek language and culture organised mainly at one Greek University. The University, which will hold this course, will be decided by the I.K.Y after a selection process.
  • The courses will start on December 2018 and will end on June 2019.
How to Apply: 
  1. An application form, duly completed, signed and with one recent photograph attached.
  2. An up-to-date curriculum vitae according to the european template “Europass” (in English or Greek language).
  3. Certified copies of University Diplomas – Degrees.
  4. Certificates indicating the knowledge of Greek (if any) or English or French language.
  5. Two (2) letters of reference (in Greek, English or French) by a University Professor.
  6. A written evidence of employment as a teacher of Greek, if any.
  7. A recent (issued 1 month approximately prior to the application submission) health certificate by a national hospital or from the relevant recognized health service stating that the applicant does not suffer from any infectious diseases.
  8. A copy of a valid passport / national identity card.
The above original documentation requested shall be submitted through the Greek Diplomatic Authorities. The Greek Diplomatic Authorities will check the documents and send them to the IKY. Only the application form and the curriculum vitae shall also be submitted earlier (as word documents) to the email: foreigners@iky.gr .
Candidates that are in Greece just before the submission deadline are required to contact their Diplomatic Authorities in Greece.

Application forms are available from the Greek Diplomatic Mission or the I.K.Y. or as downloaded copy from the I.K.Y website at: www.iky.gr.
The application shall be submitted according to the annexes 1 or 2: application form in Greek or in English.
If the documentation is not in Greek a certified translation (by the Greek Diplomatic Authorities abroad) into Greek, English or French must be supplied.
In addition, documents numbered 3, 4, 7, and 8 should bear the Apostille or be certified by the Greek Diplomatic Authorities (the Embassy or Consulate) in cases where the candidate’s state of origin is not a member of the Hague Convention (Apostille) of 5 October 1961 abolishing the requirement of legalisation for foreign public documents.

Lutheran World Federation (LWF) Scholarships in Theology, Diaconal and Development 2020 for Developing Countries

About the Award: Through the LWF scholarships program LWF works alongside its member churches in developing their capacity to serve effectively in their contexts. The scholarship program helps churches to acquire qualified personnel for spiritual care and diaconal work. The main criteria for a candidate approval is the church’s corresponding need to increase its human and institutional capacity, either in areas of theology or diakonia/development.

Type: Undergraduate, Masters, PhD/Postdoctoral, Research

Eligibility: 
  • Church affiliation of the candidate: Only applications from active members of LWF member churches are considered. All applications must be endorsed and submitted by the church. No applications submitted by individuals will be considered.
  • Nationality of the candidate: Only candidates from developing countries are eligible for scholarships in fields of diakonia/development. The theological scholarships are, in principle, open to candidates from all regions and countries.
  • Age limits: Only candidates up to a certain age are eligible for LWF scholarships, depending on the pursued degree:

There has to be a clear commitment by the church to engage the candidate as employee or volunteer in an area related to the proposed training after completion of the candidate’s studies/training.
  • Quality of the application: The candidate must demonstrate convincingly his/her commitment, ability and motivation to pursue the training and to support the church afterwards (good educational and professional qualifications, recommendations and certificates, convincing character).
  • Study place. The LWF encourages candidates to study in their home country or home region. In case a study or training program abroad is proposed, convincing reasons must be given in the application.
  • Gender and youth quota: At least 40% of the approved candidates will be female; at least 20% will be youth below the age of 30 years. These quotas will not only apply to the overall approvals, but also to each church and region.
  • Regional balance: The LWF seeks to ensure that candidates from different regions, countries and churches are being supported.
Number and Value of Awards: In total, 50-70 scholarships will be awarded for studies in diaconia and development and 20-25 for theological studies.

Duration of Programme:  
  • Regular scholarships for study programs of at least 1 year: The candidates are approved for at least 1 year of support to take up or complete their proposed study program. Selection Process: Uppsala University’s scholarships for tuition liable students are merit-based and are awarded to academically talented students who show an interest in belonging to an educational milieu. The written motivation in your online scholarship application is also taken into account. Financial need does not factor into the awarding.

Sciences Po Eiffel Scholarship for International Masters and Undergraduate Students 2018/2019

Application Deadline: Submission deadline for a Sciences Po application including the required documentation for the Eiffel Scholarship is 3rd of November 2017 for students already at Sciences Po (including applicants who deferred their arrival or those who received conditional offer last year) and 10th November 2017 for new candidates at Sciences Po.

About the Award: Sciences Po only presents applications from candidates with profiles that match the priorities of the Eiffel scholarship. If you are offered a place to study at Sciences Po, we will inform you whether your application will be proposed to Campus France (the organisation in charge of this scholarship).
Applications received from students currently studying abroad are prioritised over those from students already living in France.
Students cannot apply directly for the Eiffel Scholarship. Applications must be made through a higher education institution.  If you are studying in two higher education institutions, you can only submit a single application. In order to apply, you must have already been accepted to a program at Sciences Po. For your application to be successful, it is essential that you respect our deadlines.
The Eiffel scholarship program, launched in January 1999 by the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs, is aimed at foreign students whose outstanding ability has been recognised by French institutions of higher education who wish to sponsor these students for the rest of their studies.
The programme is primarily designed to provide an education in France to future decision makers in both the private sector and in the national administrations of emerging countries.

  • Students admitted last year who have received a conditional offer of admission if they submit an English test before the scholarship application deadline.
  • PhD students who are co-supervised or presenting a joint thesis with a partner university
  • Students admitted to the following dual degree programme (other Sciences Po dual degree programme are not eligible for this scholarship):
    • Journalism Sciences Po/Columbia University (candidates for this programme are eligible)
    • Sciences et Politiques de l’Environnement Sciences Po/Université Pierre et Marie Curie (only first year students are eligible)
    • Quantitative Economics Sciences Po/Panthéon Sorbonne Paris I (only first year students are eligible)
    • The Eiffel laureates who graduated in June 2017and wish to submit an Eiffel application for the PhD.

Not eligible to the Eiffel Scholarship

  • Students who already received a grant or scholarship from the French government
  • Students who have previously applied for an Eiffel scholarship and who have been unsuccessful, even if they change their field of studies.
  • Candidates for the 1year Master’s programmes
  • Candidates for the Joint Master in Journalism and International Affairs (Except candidates in their first year)
  • Students admitted to a Sciences Po dual degree programme (except for the 3 dual degrees mentioned above)

Value of Award: Monthly grant. The Eiffel Scholarship does not cover tuition fees.  Students offered a place to study at Sciences Po who receive the scholarship are therefore responsible for paying the annual tuition fees.
How to Apply: 
  • Students cannot apply directly for the Eiffel Scholarship. Applications must be made through a higher education institution.  If you are studying in two higher education institutions, you can only submit a single application.
  • First time applicants who wish to be presented for the Eiffel scholarship by Sciences Po must indicate so in the “Financial Information” section of their Sciences Po application form and must provide the required documents. Please note that your scholarship request will be taken into account only in case of admission.
  • Students already admitted at Sciences Po, students admitted last year who have received a conditional offer of admission or students admitted last year in their first graduate year who requested a deferral have to send their Eiffel Scholarship application by email to the Admissions office by attaching the required documents : Admissions contact form 
  • Sciences Po will select the applications that it wishes to present to Campus France. Please note that applying for the Eiffel grant does not guarantee the presentation of your application to Campus France.
All candidates must attach the following documents to their scholarship application :
  • CV, including information on the applicant’s level (distinction/honours, ranking or position in the promotion, number of students in the promotion, diploma with information on specialisation, date of the diploma, final grades)
  • professional project, one or two pages. The applicant must explain the reasons for studying in France as opposed to their home country, their interest for the selected programme and how this will help them achieve their career goals and objectives.
