About Scholarship: The Japan-WCO Human Resource Development Programme (Scholarship Programme) provides a grant covering travel, subsistence, admission, tuition and other approved expenses to enable promising young Customs managers from a developing member of the WCO to undertake Master’s level studies at the Aoyama Gakuin University (AGU) in Tokyo, Japan.
The Scholarships in Japan provides Customs officials from developing countries with an opportunity to pursue Master’s level studies and training in Customs related fields in Strategic Management and Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) at the university in Tokyo, Japan.
The Master degree programme comprises two segments: an academic segment and a practical segment. The academic segment starts with focused teaching of foundational skills in strategic management and IPR. It then moves to a range of applied topics which help students understand how to design, implement, and evaluate public policies, in particular customs policy, in accordance with development strategies for organizations. The practical segment is taught in co-operation with the Japan Customs, including the Japan Customs Training Institute.

Who is qualified to apply?
  • A candidate must be a customs officer of a developing member of the WCO with quality work experience of at least three years in the field of customs policy and administration in his/her home country.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have experience in IPR border enforcement, and who are expected to work in the IPR-related section of their Customs administration after this Scholarship Programme.
  • After the completion of the Programme, the candidates should continue to work in their home Customs administration for 3 years at least. After half a year and 3 years from the completion of the Programme, they should report to the university indicating the post they occupy in their home administration and how they have been utilizing the experience they acquired in Japan.
  • A candidate must be in good health and preferably under 40 years of age as of April 1, 2017.

What are the benefits?
  • A monthly stipend of 147,000 yen which covers living expenses such as food, clothing, and other daily expenses, as well as accommodations, transportation, medical treatment, insurance, and various miscellaneous expenses related to your study at AGU.
  • Admission(290,000 yen) and tuition fees (902,000 yen) of  which will be paid directly to AGU by the Japan-WCO Human Resource Development Scholarship Program. (as of 2016).
  • Round-trip economy-class air tickets between candidate’s home country and Japan. Airfare is provided for the scholar only and the travel must be on the date specified by AGU.

BBC World Service Languages Future Voices Trainee Scheme 2017

About the Award: The BBC reports from more locations than any other international broadcaster, and increasingly are training up bilingual reporters, who can bring the story in English and another language.  World Service Languages has TV bulletins in eleven languages in addition to its long-established Persian and Arabic TV channels. WSL are a dynamic, ambitious, challenging news organisation bringing the world’s stories to BBC News, at New Broadcasting House in the heart of London.
An interested candidate does not need any journalism skills before they start but must be interested and able to demonstrate that. BBC offers training in radio, TV and digital journalism. Candidates will spend time in the relevant language service within World Service, and in other parts of BBC News. Candidates will meet a whole range of people here, from bilingual reporters, producers, editors, presenters, camera operators to online and social media journalists. About Scholarship: This scheme strengthens scientific research capacity in low- and middle-income countries, by providing support for junior researchers to gain research experience and high-quality research training at Masters Degree level.
Research projects should be aimed at understanding and controlling diseases (either human or animal) of relevance to local, national or global health. This can include laboratory based molecular analysis of field or clinical samples, but projects focused solely on studies in vitro or using animal models will not normally be considered under this scheme.

In July 2014, U.S. President Obama announced the creation of four Regional Leadership Centers (RLCs) in Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, and South Africa to serve as regional hubs across the continent to encourage transformational learning and enhanced leadership skills.
There are four Regional Leadership Centers (Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, and South Africa). These Centers serve as regional hubs across the continent to encourage transformational learning and enhancing leadership skills. The YALI Regional Leadership Centers are a project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) in close partnership with The MasterCard Foundation. Each Regional Leadership Center is managed under a public/private partnership.

Eligibility: Competition for the YALI Regional Leadership Center West Africa is a merit-based and open to young West African leaders who meet the following criteria:

All eligible applications will be reviewed by a selection panel. Chosen semi-finalists will then be interviewed before a final selection is made and an invitation to join the program is issued.
Selection panels will use the following criteria to evaluate applications:

  • A commitment to apply leadership skills and training to benefit your country and/or community after the program.

Value of Program: Selected participants will engage in leadership training across three tracks of study: (1) Business and Entrepreneurship, (2) Civic Leadership, and (3) Public Management in a 4-week residential format with a focus on individual and team leadership skills, innovation, creative learning, and communication. The program’s emphasis is on interactive and experiential learning which fosters each participant’s ability to contribute both individually and in teams.
YALI will cover cost of transportation and accommodation, customized academic and leadership course, accident and sickness benefit plan, stipend to cover miscellaneous costs when in Accra.

About the Award: The Young Water Fellowship Program aims to empower young leaders from low and middle income countries to implement projects to tackle water, sanitation & hygiene (WASH), water pollution and water scarcity issues, by offering them an intensive training program, seed funding grants for their projects, and mentoring support by senior level experts during one year.
The Young Water Fellowship aims to empower in its first edition ten young leaders from developing countries to implement water projects in their communities, by offering them an intensive training program, seed funding grants for their project, and mentoring support by senior level experts. This program will bring about young community leaders capable of successfully designing and implementing sustainable and inclusive water projects that significantly improve living conditions in
their communities, while contributing to the achievement of SDG #6 (water and sanitation for all). In accordance with Young Water Solutions’ DNA, the program’s conceptual design is scalable and replicable, with the ambition to create sustainable impact.

Eligibility: 
  • Be 18 to 30 years old at the time of the application
  • Have a water project idea to contribute to the solution of a WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene), water pollution or water scarcity problem
  • Be a resident from this list of low and mid income countries (See list in program webpage link below)
  • Be the founder or co-founder of the project idea you’re proposing
  • The project must not have been implemented yet, although new phases of pilot projects are accepted
  • Be able to attend a workshop in Belgium in November 2017 (18th to 26th), and cover your personal costs from your residency to the airport and back (the rest of the travel expenses are covered).
  • Be able to cover your visa expenses (we will provide Invitation letter).
  • Be able to communicate in English (intermediate level at least).

About the Award: Voices of Youth – UNICEF is looking for 5-10 young people from across the world to join two UNICEF campaigns addressing major issues impacting millions of children: End Violence & Children Uprooted.
  • END VIOLENCE: Violence against children marks them forever – and ending it is everybody’s business.
  • CHILDREN UPROOTED: Millions of children are fleeing violence, disaster or poverty – and we need to protect their rights and their futures.
You will pick ONE of the two campaigns and craft blog posts that focus on the issues it addresses. For each blog post you receive feedback on your writing, get access to tips & tricks on how to write a good blog post, exchange ideas with other blogging interns and hear from experts.
